What is an EOB?
An explanation of benefits (EOB) is an insurance company’s explanation about a claim. This document shows what insurance will pay and what the member must pay for specific services.. An EOB is sometimes accompanied by a benefits check but it’s more likely the insurer will send payment to the doctor.
The EOB is not a bill, although it will explain any charges that the member still owes or may have already paid. If the member owes extra money after the insurance company has paid its part, the provider will send a bill. This should match what the member owes as listed in the EOB.
