Balance Billing

Have you received a bill from your provider stating that you owe more money for a service than you expected? This could be a balance bill.

What is a balance bill?

A balance bill is any bill you receive from a provider that is for an amount higher than the amount listed on your Sana Explanation of Benefits (EOB).

Why did I receive a balance bill?

Sana uses Reference Based Pricing (RBP).  Typically, providers accept our RBP and will adjust their balance accordingly. But when providers don't accept our pricing, they sometimes bill members directly. This is called balance billing.

Do I have to pay my balance bill?

Typically, no. Sana and our partners work hard to try to make sure our members never have to pay balance bills. But you do need to take action if you receive one.

If you feel like you've received a balance bill, please email it to us at hello@sanabenefits.com.  We'll review the bill and send it over to our negotiation partners, Payer Compass or 6 Degrees Health, who'll reach out to your provider to negotiate the balance. Our partners will be in touch with you from that point on to make sure you know the status of your balance bill.

If you have any questions please feel free to call us at (833) 726-2123 or send an email to hello@sanabenefits.com.
